Terms of Service
Last updated 12 October 2026
These terms are the agreement between you and ReleaseKit, operated by Jules Le Prince (see the legal notice), for the use of releasekit.dev and the update feeds it serves. By creating an account, you accept them.
1. What ReleaseKit does
ReleaseKit hosts updates for Mac apps that use the open-source Sparkle framework: it checks and signs the versions you upload, builds disk images and delta updates, publishes your appcast, and serves these files to the copies of your app your users have.
2. Your account
- You must be at least 16 and able to enter into this agreement. If you use ReleaseKit for a company, you accept these terms on its behalf.
- Keep your email accurate and your password safe. What is done with your account is your responsibility.
- One account per person; accounts are not to be shared or resold.
3. Plans, trial and payment
- Using ReleaseKit requires a plan. Plans, their limits and prices are shown on the pricing and Plan pages.
- Every plan starts with a 14-day free trial, once per customer. Unless you cancel before it ends, the plan is charged when the trial ends, then at the start of each month or year.
- Payments are handled by Polar (polar.sh), the merchant of record, who sells the subscription, charges the applicable taxes and issues the invoices. Polar's own terms apply to the payment.
- You can cancel at any time in Manage billing. The plan then runs until the end of the period already paid; an email confirms the cancellation. Except where the law requires it, payments are not refunded, including for the time left in a period.
- A bigger plan applies at once and the difference is charged for the rest of the period; a smaller one applies at the next renewal.
- We may change prices for the next periods; you will be told by email at least 30 days before, and can cancel before the change applies.
4. When a plan ends
For 90 days after a plan ends, your account is read-only: nothing new can be uploaded or published, but your appcasts and downloads keep working, so your users keep updating. After that, your apps' files may be deleted.
5. Your apps and content
- You keep every right to your apps, release notes and other content. You give ReleaseKit the permission it needs to provide the service: to store, check, sign, convert (disk images, delta updates) and distribute them to your app's users.
- You confirm that you have the right to distribute what you upload, and that it complies with the law.
- The Sparkle signing key of each app is generated by ReleaseKit and stored encrypted. You can download it at any time from the app's settings. Keep a copy: without it, your users' copies refuse any update that is not signed with it.
6. What is not allowed
- Distributing malware, software that harms its users or their data, or anything illegal.
- Using ReleaseKit to host files unrelated to your apps' updates.
- Getting around the limits of your plan, attacking or overloading the service, or accessing other accounts.
We may remove content or suspend an account that breaks these rules, after notice when the situation allows it.
7. Sparkle
ReleaseKit is independent and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Sparkle project. Sparkle is free software, which your app includes under its own license (MIT); keeping its notice in your app is your responsibility. ReleaseKit produces files in Sparkle's formats, and its delta updates are made by a port of Sparkle's own code: the notices are on the Licenses page.
8. Availability
We work to keep ReleaseKit available and your data safe. Your feeds and files are served from Cloudflare R2, independently of the website. The service is nevertheless provided as is, without a guaranteed level of availability; maintenance and incidents can interrupt it.
9. Liability
To the extent the law allows, ReleaseKit is not liable for indirect damages (such as lost profits, data or customers), and its total liability is limited to the amounts you paid in the 12 months before the event. Nothing in these terms limits a liability that the law does not allow to limit, nor the rights of consumers.
10. Deleting your account
You can delete your account at any time from the Account page. Your plan ends at once, without refund, and your apps, their files and your data are deleted for good (see the privacy policy for backups). We may close an account that breaks these terms, after notice.
11. Changes
We may update these terms. For important changes, you will be told by email at least 30 days before they apply; continuing to use ReleaseKit after that means accepting them.
12. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by French law. Before any action, write to support@releasekit.dev so we can try to settle it. Failing that, the competent French courts have jurisdiction; if you are a consumer, you keep the rights and the courts that the law of your country gives you, and you can use the European online dispute resolution platform.
